Real change is possible.

In a city that is so often overlooked, we are working to provide an equitable educational option to all children in Chester.

Step Into Our Studio

Please join us for a series of 3 creative workshops – visual arts, music, and poetry – taught by CCSA teachers and demonstrated by CCSA scholars.

This family-friendly series is a great opportunity to connect with fellow community members, experience CCSA’s approach to arts-integrated virtual learning and challenge your inner-creative to learn a new skill.

Suggested donation of $25/workshop or $60 for all three.

CCSA visual arts teacher Kelly Nicholson will lead you in drawing your very own city block. You will have the opportunity to design your city, from the ground up, while CCSA student architects demonstrate the creation of their own urban masterpieces. This lesson will show how perspective plays a role in every aspect of art and life, not limited to drawing. All you need for this workshop is a piece of paper, a pencil, a ruler, and your creativity.

CCSA students will demonstrate how to use digital software to create original compositions influenced by Spirituals and Civil Rights protest songs. Following this event, we encourage you to access a free version of the digital composition app, Soundtrap, to compose your own mix.

In preparation for National Poetry Month in April, CCSA middle school students and their teacher Cherrone Hamm will lead you through a lesson in blackout poetry. Whether you consider yourself an aspiring, amateur or professional creative writer, this will be an opportunity to learn this fascinating technique of incorporating imagery and isolating single words or phrases within an existing text to form a thought provoking poem of your own.
